Meeting UK Regulations and Re-opening with ConfidenceBen Church
While the United Kingdom and other countries worldwide race against time to get the COVID-19 vaccine out, businesses are struggling to survive — and keep both their employees and customers safe.
The latest national lockdown, which went into effect Jan. 5 and will stay in place until at least mid-February, makes that even more challenging.
The statistics are bleak — no matter which way you look at the pandemic.
On Sept. 1, there were fewer than 500 COVID-19 patients in the hospital in England, according to the Department of Health and Social Care. By Jan. 7, that number had skyrocketed to more than 28,000 patients.
“COVID-19, especially the new variant, is spreading quickly across the country,” said England’s chief medical officer, Chris Whitty. “This puts many people at risk of serious disease and is placing a lot of pressure on our [National Health Service.]”
Meanwhile, more than one-third of all restaurants, bars and hotels are in danger of permanently shutting down before spring, according to data collected by the Office for National Statistics. And a number of top retailers, including Bonmarché and Topshop, have gone into administration, which means they have become insolvent and are at serious risk of shutting down.
So what’s the solution? How can the United Kingdom reopen safely once this latest lockdown ends?
There is no magic bullet, but technology does offer a way to re-open as safely as possible. There is a solution that protects employees, customers and clients while also giving businesses and organizations their best odds for surviving — and avoiding both governmental fines and costly litigation.
It’s called the COVID-19 Workplace Solution and it’s already being used at more than 1,000 businesses and organizations across the globe.
Re-opening with the COVID-19 Workplace Solution
The COVID-19 Workplace Solution is quickly gaining a reputation as an easy, affordable and elegant way to help keep the virus from infiltrating a business or organization.
It all starts with the Turing Shield, which is an AI-powered thermal scanner with extraordinary capabilities. In addition to conducting temperature checks, it also scans faces to make sure a face mask is being worn. Also, the scanner is activated by a QR code generated after an employee or client takes a quick health questionnaire designed to detect individuals at risk of infection.
It’s important to note that the Turing Shield’s temperature checks are done without any human involvement whatsoever. That’s critical because, even with a face mask on, nobody wants the risks associated with manually checking the temperature of every employee who comes to work.
And that’s all just the start of how the COVID-19 Workplace Solution can help a business or organization reopen — and stay open — safely.
UK Guidance for Re-opening Safely
Under new guidance provided by the UK Health and Safety Executive, employers must take specific actions to meet the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013, including the following:
- Make a report of “an unintended incident at work has led to someone’s possible or actual exposure to COVID-19.”
- Make a report of any worker diagnosed as having COVID-19 if “there is reasonable evidence that it was caused by exposure at work.”
“Providing a written report, regarding COVID-19 exposure in the workplace, will help businesses return to it’s normal operations!”
Essentially, that means that a business must be prepared to do quick and efficient contact tracing should an employee either become infected at work or simply be exposed to the virus at work.
Failure to do either of these two things could result in a fine of up to £10,000 or even a prohibition notice.
The UK has also issued guidance as to how businesses and organizations should re-open safely. They include:
- Having a system in place to conduct temperature checks
- Having the ability to manage the number of customers in a location
- Providing clear guidance on social distancing and hygiene, including signage
That may all sound daunting. First of all, it’s a lot for any business to manage, especially a small business. Then there’s the risk of penalties, which is the very last thing any business needs in today’s economic environment.
But, here again, the COVID-19 Workplace Solution can simplify the process — and help protect a business of any size.
Contact Tracing and Occupancy Counting Made Easy
The COVID-19 Workplace Solution includes an AI-powered video surveillance system that makes both contact tracing and occupancy counting virtually effortless.
And that’s great news because the alternative — doing these tasks manually — is fraught with potential problems.
“Turing Video’s COVID-19 Workplace Solution is effective, efficient, and eliminates the risk of transmission. Manual temperature checks and contact tracing is more complicated and involves human interaction (risk of infection)”.
Contact tracing requires a flurry of emails, phone calls and interviews — and depends on the reliability of people’s memories. Occupancy counting requires either sign-in sheets or positioning an employee at an entrance point, no matter what the weather, to manually count people coming and going.
The COVID-19 Workplace Solution accomplishes both of these tasks without burdening employees with additional duties. Instead, it uses intelligent face search and video analytics to give businesses the accurate information needed to keep their employees, clients safe — and to protect themselves from governmental fines and possible litigation.
That’s why the COVID-19 Workplace Solution has been embraced by businesses around the globe and, in the last three months alone, has performed nearly 10 million scans.
The COVID-19 Workplace Solution and Your Business
It might be hard to imagine how seamlessly the COVID-19 Workplace Solution can fit into your business.
But here is a quick video on how effortlessly it all works.
You’ll see that it’s quick, easy, accurate — and extremely secure as it uses the Enterprise Class Linux operating system, which is regarded by experts as one of the most secure operating systems available today. The scanner also complies with rigorous security measures, including data encryption, platform penetration testing and organization data security compliance.

Like it or not, we’re living in uncertain times. There’s the risk of the virus itself, as well as the risk of fines or pandemic-related lawsuits.
